PAI Skincare Review: A Clean Brand for Sensitive Skin

Surprisingly, I first learned about PAI skincare not in a beauty shop but in London Underground about one year ago. I saw a beautiful ad and thought that I have never heard about this brand before. I thought it was a new skincare brand trying to get promoted and that’s why it was on the Underground ad. Later I found out it was not a new brand as it was founded back in 2006 by Sarah Brown. Sarah said she needed a kinder, smarter skincare she could trust and that’s how she created the brand PAI.

I learned that PAI is a skincare brand for sensitive skin which has natural ingredients in its product composition.  PAI beauty products are dermatologically tested and approved for sensitive skin. This is a clean skincare brand and you will not find any synthetic fragrances and ingredients that can irritate skin.

What is sensitive skin?

Sensitive skin is fragile skin that is prone to various external and internal stimuli which results in redness, irritation and itching. I’ve got this type of skin. What irritates the face skin most in my case are such external factors as sun, extreme temperatures and harsh skincare products.

That’s why I was extremely happy when I discovered the PAI skincare. I have tried three products by this brand so far and wish to try more in future. Hare are these products and I am sharing my reviews on them in this blog post:

  1. Carbon Star Detoxifying Overnight Face Oil  (re-balance range)
  2. Living Water Rice Plant and Rosemary Purifying Tonic (re-balance range)
  3. Curtain Call Rosehip and Strawberry Leaf The Brightening Mask

1. Pai Skincare Carbon Star Detoxifying Overnight Face Oil, 30 ml

This is the first product of the brand I have tried. It attracted me by the product description on the box which I carefully read in the shop. I was curious about how this black-colored oil works and I bought it to give it a try.

What does it do and how to use it?

The rebalancing overnight oil is designed for acne-prone skin to reduce visible imperfections and improve the skin appearance. Use it in the evening, applying 1 – 2 drops to damp skin and massage it gently. It can be used daily or when the skin is stressed.

What are key ingredients?

  • Organic Black Cumin Seed Oil which is well-known for its powerful antibacterial properties
  • Vegetable Charcoal helps to remove impurities and dead skin cells
  • Oil complex reduces inflammation and scarring, and helps to keep sebum levels at bay

What is the effect?

The Carbon Star oil comes in a glass bottle with a pipette. I have never used a black-colored oil on my face and the biggest question I had with this one was “Does it leave any black traces or marks on the face?” The answer is NO, because the oil becomes clear on the skin! The face doesn’t become black-colored and nothing black is left on the face which brought me some kind of relief. It also doesn’t leave anything black on the pillow or clothes.

Even though the oil doesn’t absorb completely, still the face looks normal and has its natural color. I used it exactly as advised by the brand and I noticed improvement after the first application! In the evening, after cleansing and toning my face, I apply only the oil. This sounds unbelievable but after the first application in the evening, next morning I found my skin much smoother and better looking. However, first applications caused some kind of skin irritation which then discontinued. The oil doesn’t have any smell which I like. When I have blemishes, the oil helps to reduce redness and inflammation. I also noticed there is no excess sebum production during the day. So I can say that the oil really works and is worth trying.

2. Pai Skincare Living Water Rice Plant and Rosemary Purifying Tonic, 50ml

I was happy with the Carbon Star face oil, so when I needed a toner I decided to buy a toner by PAI Skincare. I have chosen the one in question because it’s 100% natural, alcohol-free and non-irritating which is perfect for my sensitive skin.

What does it do and how to use it?

The toner has the following properties: balancing, hydrating and clarifying. It is said on the box:

“Rice plant living water delivers a mineral and vitamin infusion to improve congested complexions. Rosemary acts as a skin purifier and mood booster. Your moment of clarity awaits.” Sounds good, isn’t it? The toner comes in the form of a spray in a glass bottle of 50ml. It’s easy to use – just spray on the face or on a cotton pad and apply on the skin.

What are key ingredients?

  • Rosemary floral water
  • Rice water
  • Geranium water

What is the effect?

I prefer to spray it on a cotton pad and then apply it on my face. I love the refreshing effect it provides to my skin and its amazing herbal smell! It gives the skin all the necessary hydration without drying. It didn’t cause any irritation or redness on my sensitive skin. Absolutely love it! However, I feel the 50ml bottle ran out very quickly so I wish the toner had a bottle of a bigger volume.

3. Curtain Call Rosehip and Strawberry Leaf The Brightening Mask

Clay masks are a must-have in my beauty arsenal as these are the best quick solutions to purify and clarify my acne-prone skin. Of course, I wanted to try a clay mask from PAI Skincare! However, I should say I am not impressed with the PAI mask and will provide just a brief review. First, the skincare routine becomes too complicated if you use the cloth to gently remove the mask from your face. I just rinse it with warm water with my hands. Second, I didn’t notice any brightening effect at all. Yes, it helps to refresh the skin but this is probably all. Third, I didn’t enjoy its smell – I understand it’s all natural but the smell should be more pleasant. By the way, this mask is no longer being produced – I am wondering what is the reason?

After trying three PAI beauty products, I can say I am not disappointed as I really liked their overnight oil and the face toner. Even though I am not entirely happy with their clay mask, I would continue exploring PAI Skincare products because they prove to be clean, natural and effective for sensitive skin.
